Rose Sperrazza

Rose Sperrazza was appointed Assistant Professor of Music (Clarinet) at Northeastern Illinois University in September of 2004. She previously served on the faculty of Harper College, and as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and at Akron University.

As a performer, Sperrazza's experience spans the genres of solo, chamber, and orchestral playing. She has appeared with the Harper Chamber Winds, the Opus Three Woodwind Trio, and the Madison Symphony Orchestra. She has been a featured soloist with the Salt Creek Sinfonietta, the Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) Wind Ensemble, and the NEIU String Orchestra. She regularly performs recitals and in the Chicago metropolitan area.

Sperrazza has been a featured artist at ClarinetFest 2003 in Salt Lake City (premiere performance of Imprevu by Edward Yadzinski) and 2004 in Washington D.C. In July of 2005 she will perform at ClarinetFest 2005 to be held in Tokyo, Japan. Her playing has been featured on Wisconsin Public Radio's "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Elvehjem" and WORT-FM's "Other Voices."

Dr. Sperrazza has been an adjudicator for the Illinois Music Educator's Association All-State Band clarinet auditions, and for the Illinois State High School Solo and Ensemble Contest. She has presented clarinet clinics at Harper College, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison's Summer Music Clinic program, and at numerous high schools in the Illinois area.

Sperrazza holds the Bachelor of Music degree in clarinet performance from DePaul University, the Master of Music degree in clarinet from the University of Akron, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she was awarded the Bolz Scholarship. Her primary teachers include William R. Gasbarro, Larry Combs, David Bell, and Dr. Linda Bartley.

Dr. Sperrazza completed her doctoral dissertation on the Unaccompanied Clarinet Works of Edward Yadzinski (composer and former clarinetist of the Buffalo Symphony).
